Got the day off for President's Day? In addition to the CAADP Annual Meeting, you can come to be part of one of those defining moments in lawmaking, where the folks who make the law meet the folks who are nearly killed by it.
CAADP will have a Day at the Legislature, featuring Ray Krone. It will take place in Room 38 in the basement of the House of Representatives, beginning at 10:00 a.m. We'll hear about current legislation and the Arizona Attorney General's Red Book, and we'll hear Ray Krone telling us his own story. You'll get a fact sheet packet, in case you're meeting your own lawmaker. We'll trek to both House and Senate, to be introduced from the balcony, where lawmakers can look Ray in the eye.
There will be a press conference, where numbers count, so bring your friends! We'll support Ray Krone as he asks lawmakers why this state refuses to take responsibility and acknowledge that innocent people end up on Arizona's Death Row.
Ray is back in Arizona for one day only. DNA evidence cleared him and pointed to the guilty man in 2002, after ten years in Arizona prisons, including Arizona's death row. Four years later, the infamous Red Book of Profiles of Death Row Prisoners, updated and issued annually, still lists him as serving a "term of life." Still listed as guilty ... even though he never was guilty at all.
Don't miss this. We need it, and Ray deserves it. A Pennsylvania farm boy, honored vet, USPS letter carrier, someone who never had any trouble with the law, until the State took a notion that he murdered a woman, and the State selectively produced "expert" testimony convinced two juries. Like Parade Magazine said, "It could happen to any of us." Until the death penalty is abolished.
