US Supreme Court Orders Hearing on Innocence

The US Supreme Court, in an unusual move, ordered a federal court to hold a hearing on whether new evidence clearly establishes Troy Davis's guilt. Mr. Davis was convicted of the 1989 murder of an off-duty police officer, but many have questioned whether he actually committed the crime.

Perspectives on the Death Penalty
On April 14, 2007, the Arizona Death Penalty Forum will present a conference on the death penalty. The event, which is cosponsored by CAADP, is entitled "Perspectives on the Death Penalty" and will feature speakers from both sides of the death-penalty debate.
ABA Publishes a Report on Arizona's Death Penalty
On July 17, 2006, the American Bar Association (ABA) published a report on Arizona's death penalty. You can download a copy of the report, see the problems with the death penalty that the ABA identified, and read the recommedations to address these problems.

Arizona's Death Penalty in 2006, Featuring Thomas Zlaket, former Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court (March 4, 2006)
CAADP will be cosponsoring a statewide conference on the death penalty. The event features Thomas Zlaket, former Arizona Supreme Court Chief Justice, and members of the Arizona State Legislature. This conference is open to members of the public.
Death Penalty Speaker Series (February 21 and 22 and March 7, 2006)
The Law Students Against the Death Penalty, Criminal Justice and Security Program, and the Criminal Law Association will be holding a three-part speaker series that is free and open to the public. The speakers include Ray Krone, the 100th former death row inmate freed because of innocence since 1976; the Honorable Stanley Feldman, former Arizona Supreme Court Justice; and Dr. Kathy Norgard, author of Hard to Place and a member of CAADP's Steering Committee.
2006 Annual Meeting (February 20, 2006)
CAADP will hold its 2006 Annual Meeting at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. and will include a keynote speech by Ray Krone, the 100th person released from death row based on DNA exoneration.
Day at the Legislature, with Ray Krone (February 20, 2006)
CAADP will have a Day at the Legislature, featuring Ray Krone. We'll hear about current legislation and the Arizona Attorney General's Red Book, and we'll hear Ray Krone telling us his own story. You'll get a fact sheet packet, in case you're meeting your own lawmaker. We'll trek to both House and Senate, where Ray will be introduced from the balcony, giving lawmakers an opportunity to apologize for what Ray experienced.
