What: Vigil for planned execution of Jeffrey Landrigan
When: Monday, October 25, from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
Where: Northeast corner of Campbell Avenue and Speedway Boulevard, Tucson. NOTE: we incorrectly stated in an earlier release that the vigil was on Campbell and Broadway, when it actually is on Campbell and Speedway.
The Coalition of Arizonans to Abolish the Death Penalty, a statewide group comprised of hundreds of people from all walks of life, will hold a protest vigil Monday, Oct. 25, from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. on the Northeast corner of Campbell Avenue and Speedway Boulevard in Tucson.
"The State of Arizona is hell-bent on killing Jeffrey Landrigan," said Bob Schwartz, CAADP's president. "It won't be deterred by a nationwide shortage of one of the drugs used for execution by lethal injection."
"Our homicidal government appears to have acquired a lethal dose on the black market," Schwartz said. "By insisting on imposing the death penalty, Arizona adds to its reputation at one of the most backward, barbaric, hateful and repressive places on Earth."
"The civilized world has ended capital punishment," Schwartz said. "It’s time Arizona did the same."
Landrigan is scheduled to be executed Oct. 26 in Florence, barring any last-minute appeals. CAADP members will also join other groups to protest the execution on Tuesday.
The public is invited to join either protest. They may send an e-mail to punchwoods@Q.com for more information or car pooling.
Schwartz is available for interviews; press coverage of either vigil is welcome. Contact A.J. Flick at ajflick@hotmail.com for interviews or questions.
